Provo

With Wasatch peaks to the east and Utah Lake to the west, Provo is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground. It’s home to Brigham Young University and forms part of Silicon Slopes, Utah’s startup and tech community. Its easy access to hiking, river rafting, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and more, plus the city’s own 53 green spaces (totalling 2,000 acres, plus 33 miles of trails), earned Provo #24 for Parks & Outdoors. That ranking, plus its #4 spot for Safety and #11 for Weather, earned Provo an impressive #8 overall ranking in our Place category. Technology, health care, and education are among the city’s major industries, the economy propelled by a highly educated population: Provo ranked #5 for Educational Attainment (with nearly 43% having earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher). Coupled with its #34 ranking for Foreign Born (nearly 11%), Provo ranked #12 in our People category. A Google Fiber community, Provo is poised for growth, led by its recently launched $40-million airport terminal, adding more daily flights and an anticipated $300 million in additional economic activity a year.
